NOTE: Grade 8 was a combined national and state assessment; grade 12 was a national assessment only. In the "Source" column, BACK = student information from administration and sampling sources; STUD = student questionnaire; SCHL = school questionnaire; NSTU = National Indian Education Study student questionnaire; NTCH = National Indian Education Study teacher questionnaire; NSCH = National Indian Education Study school questionnaire; SUBJ = subject (writing) questionnaire; TCHR = teacher questionnaire; SDEL = student with disabilities/English language learner questionnaire. "NAEP ID" is a NAEP database identification number assigned to the group-defining variables commonly used in NAEP. "TCS ID" is the NAEP item development contractor's test creation system (TCS) identification that is used in the questionnaires to label each question. Variables that come from sources other than questionnaires have no such identification. All combinations of the group-defining variables listed in this table were used to create interactions.
