NAEP Technical DocumentationConducting Special Studies

Special studies may be conducted as part of NAEP. These studies are administered as part of the assessments in both general and accommodation session materials and require no additional effort or instruction on the part of field staff or students. Other special studies are conducted by field staff on the NAEP assessment day but require the completion of materials separate from those used for NAEP assessments. In such instances, field staff administer the special studies as soon as possible following the completion of general and any accommodation sessions.
