National assessments are based on national probability samples of schools and students that allow for national and regional reporting only. The target grades are 4, 8, and 12. Prior to 2002, national assessments were conducted during the 12 weeks from early January through late March. Since 2002, assessments have been conducted during the six weeks from late January through early March.
