NAEP Technical DocumentationDepartment Head Questionnaire
In 2006 and 2012, NCES piloted a department head questionnaire for the NAEP economics assessment at grade 12. Within a given school, the questionnaire was administered to the chair or lead teacher of every department that offered at least one economics-related course. The department head questionnaire was piloted as ordinarily there is no teacher questionnaire at grade 12. The questionnaire provided NCES with some information about the economics-related courses and faculty in the schools. There are currently no plans to administer the department head questionnaire in every NAEP assessment.
The NAEP Department Head Questionnaire for Grade 12 Economics includes items pertaining to
- types of economics-related courses offered by the department,
- number and qualifications of department faculty,
- professional development activities related to the teaching of economics, and
- district hiring requirements for department faculty.
