The algorithm used to compute measure of size was the same as the one used to compute for the NAEP State samples. For the national science school sample, a maximum of only one hit was allowed, unlike the NAEP State samples.
The national sample design attempts to reduce school burden by minimizing the number of schools included in both studies. NAEP studies often use the Keyfitz process, or an adaptation of the procedure proposed by Keyfitz, to compute conditional measures of size that, by their design, minimize the overlap of schools selected for both national and state assessments.
