School response rates for the NAEP 2007 twelfth-grade public school sample, both before the inclusion of substitutes and after the inclusion of 16 responding substitutes for eligible original nonrespondents, are shown in Table 1. The weighted response rates use the student enrollment from the frame divided by the school probability of selection.

The student response rates in the writing assessment are found in Table 2. Excluded students were identified in the same way as for the grades 4 and 8 assessments.

A nonresponse bias analysis was conducted because the response rate for the twelfth-grade public school sample was below 85 percent.
