NAEP Technical DocumentationSchool Base Weights for Originally Selected Schools

The school base weight for an originally selected school is equal to the inverse of its probability of selection. All originally selected schools that were included in the sample with certainty had school base weights of 1. In some jurisdictions, all fourth- or eighth-grade public schools were included in the NAEP assessment with certainty. Accordingly, the school base weights for all schools in these jurisdictions were 1.
