			Data Entry Data Validation and Resolution

NAEP student response data is transcribed into a machine-readable format through data entry, which includes optical mark reflex (OMR) scanning, image scanning, intelligent character recognition, and key entry. Data entry is followed by data validation and resolution.

NAEP staff set document definition files for large numbers of unique documents for each assessment. Staff created a detailed procedures document that allows an item to be defined only once and then used in many blocks, and likewise allows a block to be defined only once and then used in many documents.
