			Final Collapsed Levels Used for Raking Dimensions Grade 4 Mathematics Grade 8 Mathematics Grade 4 Science Grade 8 Science

Five variables were used for the raking dimensions. These variables included

• two levels of student disability (SD/non SD);
   
• two levels of limited English proficiency (LEP/non LEP);
  
  
• two levels of student gender (male/female);
   
• five levels of student race/ethnicity: (White and Other [W], Black [B], Hispanic [H], Asian or Pacific Islander [A], and American Indian or Alaskan Native [N]); and
   
• two levels of student age. The variable AGE was defined as follows: for grade 4, those born in August 1989 or earlier and those born in September 1989 or later; and for grade 8, those born in August 1985 or earlier and those born in September 1985 or later.

Collapsing of levels was done so that no level of a single dimension contained fewer than 30 students for a state and grade.

Control totals were obtained by summing the trimmed nonresponse-adjusted student weights for each level of the collapsed raking dimension. The final collapsed levels that were used for the raking dimensions for each jurisdiction are shown for each assessment population, in the following tables:

After raking, the same trimming procedure as described in Variation in Weights was conducted on the raked student weights. Additional trimming of weights was necessary under the same criteria as discussed in that same section.

The tables below show the distribution of the post-raking trimming factor STUTRIM₂ among the 2000 state assessment's participating jurisdictions by grade (fourth and eighth), assessment subject (mathematics and science), and reporting population (non-accommodated and accommodated). Reporting populations differ by whether accommodations were offered to students with disabilities or limited-English-proficient (SD/LEP) students. The non-accommodated reporting population, also known as the R2 reporting population, includes all non SD/LEP students plus SD/LEP students from non-accommodated sessions. The accommodated reporting population, also known as the R3 reporting population, includes all non SD/LEP students plus SD/LEP students from accommodated sessions.
